Donate

We are deeply grateful for the support of our generous donors, who have made the growth of our program possible.  Contributions of any amount are welcome at any time.  Some donors, including Bruce Cohen ’83 and Andrew Solomon ’85, have made generous commitments to fund particular projects, such as support for undergraduate research, for a period of five years.  A similarly generous commitment from Kirk Wallace ’83 and Mark Sexton ’81 has established a current-use Provost’s resource fund that will supply a steady source of support for activities in LGBT Studies (and also the Office of LGBTQ Resources).  The Wallace-Sexton Resource Fund for LGBT Studies has provided flexible support for a variety of LGBTS programmatic needs, including lectures, symposia, course support, and support for student projects.

Donations to the Library:

In addition to financial support, we seek donations that will enhance the research collections available at Yale for use by our students and faculty as well as by other researchers. We encourage you to consider donating relevant papers to the Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscript Library or to the Manuscripts and Archives Division of Sterling Memorial Library.

The Beinecke Library holds a substantial collection of papers bearing on LGBT life and letters, including the papers of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, Edmund White, H.D. and Bryher, Norman Douglas, Larry Kramer, and Carl Van Vechten, as well as one of the world’s largest collections of pre-Stonewall gay and lesbian newspapers and magazines. The Beinecke actively seeks donations of books, manuscripts, and papers that document the artistic and literary accomplishments of LGBT writers and the wider cultural world of gay life in the 19th and 20th centuries (or earlier). For more information about possible donations, please contact Timothy Young, Curator of Modern Books and Manuscripts, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, at timothy.young@yale.edu.

The Manuscripts and Archives Division of Sterling Memorial Library also holds a substantial collection of papers documenting LGBT political activism and culture as well as the history of LGBT life at Yale, including numerous diaries from the nineteenth century and the papers of Harvey Fierstein, David Mixner, and other leading activists. Dedicated to building a premier research collection documenting LGBT history, life and culture, Manuscripts and Archives seeks additional personal papers and organizational records documenting anti-discrimination efforts; political action movements; creative endeavors in photography and theater; and individual lives, especially the coming out process. They are interested in papers documenting such issues throughout the nation and world, but also have special interests in Yale, southern Connecticut, and Fire Island. For more information about possible donations, please contact William Massa, Head of Collections Development, at william.massa@yale.edu.
